MGM Cotai: Macau casino in the form of a container

Macau is one of the most lucrative gambling markets in the world - a fact that hasn't gone unnoticed by MGM, the owners of the extravagant "sea container" casino MGM Cotai.

Widely known in popular culture as the "gambling capital of the world" and the "Monte Carlo of the East", Macau's betting and gambling industry is huge, surpassing even Las Vegas in revenue, and visitors come from all over the world. but especially from nearby mainland China for high-stakes betting.

Central to this economy is the Cotai Strip, a section of the city that is home to several luxury hotels and casinos such as The Londoner Macau, Galaxy Macau, Wynn Palace, and the subject of a recent TheRichest video, MGM Cotai.

Though described by some as "a bunch of shipping containers stacked on top of each other," MGM Cotai cost more than $3.4 billion to build and includes a range of gambling establishments as well as luxury hotel rooms and restaurants.

The 35-story resort is located on Macau's Cotai Strip, consisting of two interconnected towers, with a huge 33-foot, 35-ton golden lion statue guarding the entrance, built from 32,000 sheets of 24-carat gold foil.

MGM Resorts International generated $12 billion in revenue in 2019, a significant portion of which came from MGM Cotai, where baccarat table limits reach $260,000, compared to most casinos in Las Vegas, where the typical table limit is $10,000.

MGM China, a regional subsidiary of the multinational entertainment conglomerate, made over $1.4 billion from mass-market games in 2018, as well as $1.2 billion from VIP games and a whopping $285 million from arcades in the same year.

In total, the MGM Cotai resort has a total area of 280,000 square meters, with a casino area of 46,451 square meters, and more than 1,500 slot machines and 175 table games are offered to customers.
