GamCare has published a new three-year strategy as new guidance to ensure that fewer people are affected by the potential harms of gambling.
Its new approach for the period 2021-24 identifies four main strategic ambitions.
First, it will see that the harms of gambling are widely recognized and prevented, and it will ensure that effective tools and support are accessible to all. It also aims to ensure universal access to evidence-based and comprehensive care and, finally, that GamCare's work is credible, valued and effective.
To achieve these goals, GamCare has promised to provide access to support for those who face problems related to gambling and their loved ones.
The support team will also invest in and expand its services to make a positive impact on the lives of service users.
The increase in capacity will help GamCare navigate the regulatory landscape following the revision of the 2005 Gambling Act, which is currently underway.
Undoubtedly, there will be major changes in the regulation of gambling, reflecting the digital age and how gambling products are now consumed 16 years after this law was drafted.
The new strategy is centered around the achievements of the support group over the past three years, where more than 100,000 people affected by gambling problems have accessed helplines, chat rooms and healing services.
GamCare has also expanded its treatment and education services to address gambling related issues at 161 locations across the UK.
In total, 23,732 professionals were trained to provide support to people affected by gambling.
Anna Hemmings, CEO of GamCare, said: “Over the next three years, we want to put the harms of gambling on the map and make more people aware of it. We will be expanding our services to bring sustainable and positive change to those affected by gambling.”
Over the next three years, GamCare will also look to expand its collaboration with stakeholders who share its vision of reducing the damage that gaming does to people's lives.
