The Swedish Gaming Authority (SGA) will be appealing the decision of the Swedish Administrative Court to set aside an earlier injunction against Kindred Group.
Earlier this month, Kindred won an appeal against an SGA sanction in December 2020 for violating an online casino weekly deposit limit of SEK 5,000 (£440) in a court hearing at the Swedish Administrative Court in Linköping.
The sanction came after the SGA found that consumers could deposit funds into their related sportsbook accounts before transferring cash to their online casino accounts.
In response to the latest setback, the SGA suggested that the court's interpretation would lead to a devaluation of the deposit limits as a way to protect Swedish players.
“The interpretation of the Administrative Court also means that a licensee offering both commercial online games and betting can easily circumvent deposit limits, while a licensee offering only commercial online games cannot,” the SGA added.
Elsewhere, the Swedish trade association BOS has come up with proposals at the request of the country's gambling market to ban online casino advertising from 6am to 9pm on TV, radio and streaming sites.
“Marketing is the most important tool that convinces Swedish gambling consumers to choose games within the licensed system,” said BOS CEO Gustav Hoffstedt.
“If Swedish-licensed companies are excluded from being able to announce their existence, this will lead to even more gambling consumers choosing black market games.
“This is already a serious problem today. One in four gambling krona is not used under the licensing system and the leak is expected to get even bigger if the offer is accepted,” Hoffstedt added.
