Betfred Challenge Cup final - thrilling fight in front of fans

After European Championship 2020 Wembley is gearing up for another sporting showdown later this month when Castleford Tigers and st helens meet in the final Betfred Challenge Cup .

Four-time winner of the Betfred Challenge Cup Adrian Morley met with a Betfred player Lewis Smith, to announce the long-awaited clash in the capital, where rugby league fans will be present under the rugby vaults.

“Growing up when he was first in the Championship, the Challenge Cup was the biggest part of the calendar and the showcase event,” he began.

“I've been lucky enough to play in several finals so I'm very excited for the final week of the Challenge Cup. We haven't had fans at Wembley since last year and when Salford and Leeds disputed it, we didn't have fans, so the fans there are great.

"The very fact of playing in the final of the Challenge Cup is very exciting."

Noting that the former rugby league player who won the Challenge Cup was once an "annual event", Smith questioned Morley about his memories of winning the tournament with his respective clubs.

“There was a time at Warrington and that coincided with my captaining there, so we won three of the four years in 2009, 2010 and 2012, which was absolutely incredible,” Morley recalls.

“I will go back 10 years to 1999 with Leeds when we won the Challenge Cup final. It was the last final at Wembley before it was demolished and a fantastic new stadium built. It was great to enjoy both - the old Wembley and the new Wembley - and in fact only one or two players have achieved this feat.

“I played in the Murrayfield final when Wembley was being rebuilt but we didn't win that one so I don't tend to talk too much about it! But there are great memories of the Challenge Cup.”
