Discussing the role of digital ID in the gambling industry, Topping emphasized: “You have to make sure you follow the rules, regulate activities and evaluate quickly, and currently the system is good because it is free. services which, again, I can't think of anyone who wants to check someone online who won't use the system because it speeds up the whole process and I think the frustration for customers is huge."
Speaking about the impact that new technologies could have, Bazalgette added: “I think it will make a big difference on the racetrack. Racecourses have been exploring self-service terminals for some time and certainly in the last two or three years with the change in ownership of Tote and closer relations with China. This has always been seen as an important development of the course.
“In the UK, we couldn't do it partly because the technology wasn't there yet. I think that's the case now, but the biggest problem was licensing restrictions, which meant these kinds of checks had to be done in person. Hence, they couldn't be self-catering because you always needed to be supervised, which effectively meant that it was inefficient so far."
