Jesper Karrbrink - The Rise of Skill-Based Games in the Slots Industry

The slot machine industry has seen a "significant rise" in recent years in player interest in skill-based games available to players, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by operators.

Conversation With Craig Davis , editor of CasinoBeats, Green Jade Games CEO and co-founder Jesper Karrbrink discussed the rise in popularity of skill-based games among other developments in the slots industry.

“First of all, this is not a replacement for slot machines or table games, it is an addition to it,” he commented, detailing the increasing development of skill-based games by slot machine manufacturers.

“We see a lot of slots players want to play these games too, because that's what they play in their free time. Secondly, there is a trend in this - somewhat driven by Evolution with their game shows, they really added an entertainment layer on top of board games - just like we added an RNG layer to video games.

“The third reason I would say is that casinos are seeing a pretty dramatic increase in new player acquisition, players who have not played slots before, they are not coming from video lottery terminals or land-based casinos, but from the social gaming area and are entering to gambling sites and casinos, and they are more accustomed to entertainment - they are accustomed to this kind of games.

In addition to discussing targeting a younger demographic of skill-based game releases, Karrbrink also noted that slots will play a major role in the future of the gambling industry, but Green Jade will include skill-based game releases.

He added: “In order to survive in the long term, we need to make slots, so we made a very classic style of slots, but our DNA is to make skill-based games.

“And one of our series of slots we call knockout slots and we have built skills into these slots because with your own ability you can turn non-winning lines into winning ones and in that sense you can use skills to play slots. And now we will soon be releasing our first slot where the bonus round is a purely skill round, so now we are combining them.”

Other topics discussed in the video include the development of immersive slot machines and their implications for the future of slot machines, as well as Green Jade's overall approach to content production.
