CellPoint Digital is considering entering the gambling business

Fintech firm CellPoint Digital confirmed its expansion into the gaming business as the company built a year of significant growth.

Having established itself as a specialist in travel payments, the group is expanding its presence in many new markets, including retail, online gaming, online education, entertainment and media, to increase digital revenues through a streamlined payment service.

Last year in an interview with Payment Expert CEO Christian Gjerding emphasized the role of partnerships in the payment process, especially as contactless payments are becoming more common.

He stated: “We are seeing non-core functions being outsourced to partners like us and I think this is very important. There is efficiency in doing things faster and cheaper, but there is also huge scope for adapting technology that has been around for a long time into a more modern reality where speed to market will be essential.

“We also meet travelers where they want to be met – an interesting point, especially regarding payments, was that one of our clients showed that Apple Pay is gaining momentum faster than any other method, and this was in to a considerable extent. It says and plays into all the conversations going on that people want to go hands-free.

“The point is that airlines are re-evaluating where they go with their payment strategy, not only in terms of efficiency and cost-effectiveness, but also to satisfy their travelers with features that make the transaction easier.”

As the markets for retail, online gaming and education or streaming content continue to evolve, CellPoint Digital is committed to exporting its value to these new sectors. On average, this means that merchants can expect to increase digital revenue by 10%, reduce payment costs by 20%, and accelerate time-to-market by 75% to implement a new payment method or feature.

Of the expansion, Gjerding added: “At its core, our mission is to make payments easier for merchants and their customers. We know from experience that international brands such as global airlines face significant payment challenges to increase their digital revenue, from cross-border transactions to the proliferation of alternative payment methods.

“Our experience with international airlines, probably the toughest retailers, means we know how to help merchants enter new markets quickly and affordably, streamlining all their payments and streamlining their payment transactions. This know-how will be invaluable as brands in growing sectors such as retail, subscription entertainment and online gaming seek to expand into new international markets.

“At the same time, we look forward to supporting the recovery of the tourism and hospitality sectors – those hardest hit by the pandemic – as they emerge from the global lockdown with the rollout of vaccinations. As travel markets reopen, CellPoint Digital's leading payment processing platform will be available to make it easier to adapt to new travel itineraries and ultimately serve their customers in the best possible way.”
