Professor Slots: IGT report 'gives insight into the future of slot machines'

On the latest podcast "Professor Slots" Dr. John Freudy discussed International Gaming Technology financial report (IGT) for the first quarter of 2021, stating that it "provides a glimpse into the future of slot machines in the US and abroad."

Who is this?

John H. Friedl, PhD , the president Jon Friedl LLC and founder of Professor Slots

What do they say?

Introducing IGT's work on the Professor Slots podcast, Friedl began: “IGT does a lot more than just make the slots we love to play. Games include the long-running Wheel of Fortune, but some of the most popular video slots in 2020 were Hex Breaker 3 and Treasure Box Kingdom.

Moving on to IGT's financial report, he said, "They did this on March 2, a few weeks ago, due to legal requirements for SEC reporting. They should be honest and easy to read. As such, reviewing their report annually gives us a glimpse into the future of slot machine gambling in the US and internationally.”

He continued, “Actually, the company didn’t lose too much money due to the pandemic because their lottery sales went up. They sold something called B2C, an Italian company that we don't do much business with, and decided to sell it.

“They did some restructuring, some cost savings they were expecting, they announced an agreement to sell an Italian B2C slot machine and the sports betting volume for Italy was £950m. It will take time, but they expected to do it in the first half of this year.

“Global sales seem to be stable, they have put emphasis on sales growth here (in the US). 2021 is off to a solid start with solid growth. Their global gaming business is fueled by innovation, but all casinos are closed for the most part, although some are open with restrictions. Casinos in the US are open with restrictions, so when you start thinking about slots on a global scale, understand that the pandemic has closed casinos.”
