How the gaming industry is "missing the opportunity" in women's leadership

As trends in consumer behavior continue to grow and evolve, how can the gaming industry do more to address the gender imbalance in this sector?

What's this?

deepens Applico 's "21st century casino" in how women in leadership will change the gaming industry and why there is still some way.

Who is this?

Ian Jones Blackhurst, Executive Director International Gaming Institute / member of the board of directors Caesars Entertainment

What do they say?

Asked about the level of progress in an industry where women are leading the way, Blackhurst responded, “It really isn't there yet, if I'm being completely honest. Until you see at least a proportion of men, women and women of color in suites throughout the gaming industry, you will not make progress.

“What I find very interesting about this is that in all the years that I have been dealing with diversity and inclusion and promoting gender balance, everyone has been saying, 'We don't want to influence meritocracy.' If you look at the data from McKinsey, Bloomberg, or Morgan Stanley, it all makes clear that all high-performing teams are made up of different management teams.

“If you are not diverse, you are not a meritocracy. I think we need to change the way we look at it."

She continued, “Another thing I've always found interesting is that if you look at an arcade buyer, about 80% of arcade buyers are women. If you look at sports betting customers, a significant percentage - around 43% or 44% - of active sports bettors are women.

So, why do you want men to be the main designers of a project when, in many ways, a woman is the biggest user? I think we're missing out on a real opportunity."
